Ever increasingly I get approached by someone that is interested in learning more about our technology and startup communities here in Philadelphia. I always point them to a series of resources both in person and online that I have, over the years, come to call my ‘homework’.
During this holiday season and for the New Year, I thought I’d dust off that homework and publish it here as PHL Tech 101. And so here it is:

Intro to the PHL Tech and Startup Communities and their Resources January 2016
We send this package out to folks making inquiries about the tech and startup community in Philadelphia……
We’ve been working on a variety of ways to compile and get these resources out to everyone interested in the PHL startup community in a better way!
A great place for folks to start is Open Access Philly (http://www.openaccessphilly.com/ )…..
I co-chair this think tank out of the Mayor’s Office called Open Access Philly. Open Access Philly http://www.openaccessphilly.com/ convenes monthly to have discovery and matchmaking sessions with all the involved groups in PHL ( industry, startups, academia, City Departments, students, non-profits, foundations and civic groups ) using technology to build a better community in PHL and maximize the resources here for greater effect. OAP helps us tie a lot of these resources together!
OpenAccessPhilly is a movement of civic-minded, innovative, entrepreneurial types who convene monthly to share projects and passion. More info: www.openaccessphilly.com

Friday, January 8th 2016 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (EDT)

Here are more resources that we’ve been building and working on within the Philadelphia Technology community…Do take a dive into the individual docs, there’s a lot there! ( and I have more ) I am consolidating most of this and placing it online for anyone and everyone to be able to have access. For those interested in and working in the PHL Tech community I’ve created this: http://nextplex.com/philadelphia-pa and this focused on Startups : http://startupdigest.com/philadelphia/
For other community leaders and folks that want to pull in resources to post onto their websites we are working on a resource publishing index here: http://beta.wikidelphia.org/ with the help of the Code for America Philadelphia Brigade, Code for Philly ( all volunteers from industry, startups, academia, City Departments, students and civic activists ) here: http://codeforphilly.org/ where you can find our other projects listed as well….. and our friends at Technically Philly have created this introduction to the PHL Tech community:
Lastly, I also manage the Philadelphia Region for FundingPost. For more than fifteen years FundingPost has worked to bring entrepreneurs together with leading investors worldwide. We believe that it is important to reach investors in every medium possible – both online and offline. Through our national Venture Capital Events, Venture Guide Magazine, Books, Webinars and our online Venture Exchange, FundingPost has had the opportunity to work with thousands of Angel and Venture Capital, Corporate VCs and Family Office Investors representing over $108 Billion. We make introductions from Investors to Entrepreneurs Every Day! FundingPost Philadelphia holds quarterly Investor Roundtables and in-network intimate workshops bringing investors and entrepreneurs together better and faster, fostering better quality relationships. Check out our national events here.
I am very happy to meet with you to go over these resources here and give you deeper insight into the PHL tech and startup community and how and where you can get even more involved and maximize the yields of this involvement. I hold open office hours every week at Code for Philly… and we are expanding the Philadelphia Funding Post operations to quarterly Philadelphia FundingPost Investor Roundtables, bi-weekly Philadelphia FundingPost open office hours, where my FundingPost team and I meet with entreps and help groom them from idea to plan, bi-weekly Philadelphia FundingPost Investor Briefings, where our diverse and many investor panelists meet with startups and entreps and discuss ‘access to capital issues’ informally. FundingPost Philadelphia will be also holding demo day like Philadelphia FundingPost Showcases where groomed startups will be presenting only to qualified and active investors.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate in reaching out to me…
